Ideas

I'm in a bit of a creative mood (it happens every now and again - I get periods where I get lots of ideas, then nothing for a while) and have thought of a list of tutorials I would like to see on this site in the near future. My aim is that I could write them, but I'm sure folk who've been around here a while know that whilst I aim to do a lot of good things, I don't seem to always get around to them...So, I thought I'd list them here, so other people could have a go first, if I don't get there!

  1. Formation of oil (intermediate? advanced?):
    • Traps, reservoirs, etc
    • Kerogen type
    • Oil window, especially time in the window to produce
    • Emphasis on North Sea, with the source (Kimmeridge) being younger than the reservoirs
    • Discussion on peak oil
  2. Igneous rock classification (idea from http://geology.about.com/od/more_igrocks/ig/igroxdiagrams/?nl=1)
  3. Formation of coal (beginner):
    • Focus on Carboniferous of UK
    • Deltas, with sedimentary features
    • Fossil plants
  4. Sequence stratigraphy of siliciclastics (advanced level)
  5. Sequence stratigraphy of carbonates (advanced level)
  6. Climate change (advanced)
    • physics of CO2
    • proxy measurements
    • the "lag problem"
    • modelling
    • I'm seeing this a summary of current knowledge with the emphasis placed on the evidence available and the problems that have yet to be resolved, rather than a political piece on why we should reduce CO2! The level is such that journal articles should be referenced, rather than websites/books Smiling face
  7. Formation of the earth (intermediate):
    • Solar system formation
    • early earth history
    • stop at around emergence of life?
  8. Geology of the UK series needs finishing off!
    • Devonian to Permian
    • Triassic to Cretaceous
    • Tertiary

I thinks that's the lot for now, but it's enough to be getting on with!
