So, I've now finished my coursework. Just my exams to go. I have my first one on the 15th of May in the morning, and it's practical geology, where I have to look at rock and fossils, observe, describe, and explain, as well as completeing a Geological Cross Section of a given area. I need all the luck in the world guys, because I need to get a B on this exam. If any one has any tips or hints please feel free to let me know.Geo-Girl Out.

*sigh* I remember doing that

*sigh* I remember doing that exam many moons ago (10 years to be precise ). The cross-section and geological history (I assume those two are all together) was my favourite bit, although I had a tendancy to miss stating the odd unconformity! My best bit of advcie would be to describe everything, even if you don't know what the rock/fossil is - even down to "it's a crystalline rock", which means at least you understand it's not sedimentary! The second bit of advice is pretty obvious - practice!

The best of luck to you and let us know how it goes - that also applies to any other A-levels students here Smiling face

Yeah they're together. I've

Yeah they're together. I've been revising loads, but because of ciriculum 2000, we don't have many papers for GL2, but we do have a couple of gcse science papers.

Im really nervous, because I really want to study geology at uni.

Thanks for your support.

OK, so I had my first exam

OK, so I had my first exam yesterday. I think it went ok. We were given a Garnet-Mica Schist, Granite, Calcite and a Goniatite as our specimens. The whole observe/describe/explain thing went really well, but the cross section was fudging awful. It was incredibly difficult for all who took the exam, but my Geology lecturer(who invigilated the exam) completed the cross-section on a spare piece of paper and mine looked a little bit similar so fingers crossed.

My next Geology exam is next thursday, and I'm pretty confident on that one too so hopefully I'll do ok.

Glad it went well! Good luck

Glad it went well! Good luck for the next one Smiling face

I've been revising hard for

I've been revising hard for my exams(all of them) and seem to be constantly tired, I've tried the usual go to bed early, red bull. pro-plus(even both together) but I still cant shake the yawns. I really don't want to be like this in any of my exams, so has anyone got any tips?

Thanks.

Revising

Plan regular breaks (more knowledge will sink in ultimately) and it gives you something to look forward to.

Try to end the day doing something else so your mind is not racing when you do try to sleep.

And I'd lay off the red-bull/pro-plus/caffeine if you can - it just mucks up your sleep patterns and makes you more tired in the end. I do know one guy who revised extensively using pro-plus, got to the exam - it wore off and he fell fast asleep. Invigilators wouldn't wake him as it would disturb the others.

Exactly what hypocentre said

Exactly what hypocentre said - breaks are essential as is relaxing before sleep. I revised in 20 minute slots with a 5-10 minute break between each one. On my break I made sure I got up and did something else, even just go to get a drink of water, just to move about a bit.

Caffine is a wonderful drug, but your body gets used to it - too much and the effect wears off (and can make concentration and fact retention worse ). Also if your body is "soaked" with caffine, you will have trouble sleeping and no amount of caffine replaces a good nights sleep. So I suggest tonight you play your guitar or Roller Coaster Tycoon (I sneaked a look at your profile) for a couple of hours before you go to bed. Also drinking lots of water will help throughout your revision will help.

Good luck!

I had my second geology exam

I had my second geology exam yesterday, and I feel pretty confident about it, I found it easy, so I think I've done well, I'm managing to sleep a little better, however this could have had something to do with a 5 mile trek myself a fellow Geology student and my Geology lecturer went on round Sandwich bay and Pegwell bay, to look at the geology there.

Thanks for all your support, and I'll keep you posted on my results etc.

    Oh  my God, I can't

Oh  my God, I can't believe it only one more Geology exam to go: Geology of the Lithosphere with The Geological Evolution of the British Isles.

Im really sad, it's like two years of my life are over. Did any one else feel like that when their A-Levels came to an end?

Yes! I did feel that - but

Yes! I did feel that - but also excited about starting Uni Smiling face

However, here's a few useful things that might help you revise UK geological history:

Hope they help!

Thanks Jon.

Thanks Jon.

I can't believe all of my

I can't believe all of my A-Levels are over. Im really upset about it actually. But I'm excited to, because the next chapter is opening up. Yay, Plymouth Uni next!
