Could we play a geological game?

For instance, one person ask about a geological word:

Ice structure, like moraine with spoon-shaped.

------- (with 7 letters)

And people guess that word: drumlin

Or we can make up with composite words: drumlin fields

And that person who guess the word, continue the game and so..

What do you think? It´s easy, and very fun!!!

Oh go on then....

Hexagonal crystal, multitude of possible colours, 7 on Moh's Scale, six letters.

Bet nobody can guess what it is.

That's a toughie Gus, is it shiny?

I vote for a geological themed pub quiz. Winning team buys everybody a round of drinks! Can't say fairer than that... by the way, did I happen to mention I'm absolutely useless at pub quizes? Who wants to join my team!?

I'll join your team Benauld. I'm pants at pub quizzes too (lull 'em into a false sense of security, eh?).

Yes, it's shiny and has pointy bits on the ends sometimes, and it hurts if you get bits in the eye when you give it a good whack with a 5lb lumphammer.

There are many rock-types that make me yell "Ouch, my cornea!" when hit with a 5 Lb hammer. I think Garnets shatter nicely.

Mike

Oops, Garnet has the wrong crystal habit.

Who wants me on their team?

Don't worry John I don't think Gus will be buying anything if he's on my team... I have a cunning plan  ... I think Mike looks like he could put in a good performance for my team too... Smiling face

Well after coming up with a mineral with 6 letters - having just been told its 7 letters perhaps I'll join your team as well!

Hey. I've got an idea.

We'll all be on the same team - and we've won already!!!!!!

re-reading I was mixing Javi's 7 letters with Gus's 6 - perhaps I was right with quartz

So next question:-

plutonic mushroom - 9 letters

I think it's quartz as well, Mike, you're supposed to come up with another brain teaser for the pub team, seeing as laccolith has got to be right (unless John has found something really obscure like fungusite or something).

And, to everybody who has a long memory, yes I did say I'd buy a round last year and didn't, so I'll see you at the Lewinnick Arms tonight. If you're not there you'll dip out.

I can't get it either, not that I've really racked my brains over it. I haven't got my "Bumper Book of Cryptic crossword Clues" handy at the moment.

Can't get that one. I can only find one mica with 14 letters - Siderophyllite - but that can't be right. I also came across Clintonite, but he's an ex-president. So I'm stumped, and, judging by the lack of replies, so is everyone else.
