crystal needs identified

ok i found this rock in the crawl space under my house and i was wondering if anyone here could identify what it is

its cracked in half. you cant really tell how clear it is from the pictures because the serface is rough and dirty and the light from my camera just bounces of the serface but inside is clear as glass. it must weigh like 30 pound. if anyone knows what it is pleace let me know. thanks

There are several possibilities here and more information is needed. If you take a steel knife blade and try to scratch it does it scratch easily or not at all?

it does not scratch at all. i live in the mountains of north carolina usa if that helps narrow it down.

It is probably quartz then.

I've seen rock salt with a similar fracture lustre to that in you photograph but that it softer than steel. If it did scratch, the next stage was going to get you to lick it!!!

yeah i thought it might be quartz but 1 ive never seen quartz that isnt octaginal and 2 ive never seen quartz this big! wonder if its worth anything.
