A shameless plug for some sponsorship. Katie will be doing the Race For Life this year in July. You can sponsor her by clicking here:

This is a very personal cause for us as we've recently had a family member who has undergone treatment for breast cancer. Please do help Katie raise as much money as possible

Thanks!

Here we go...

It's now only two weeks until my degree officially starts. I've made a start of the first book and am wrestling with some of the maths but it all seems very exciting at the moment. We'll see if this still the case in a couple of weeks/months/years time...

Aalsmeer

This week I am working in Holland, at Aalsmeer, near Amsterdam Airport.

I walked into the office from my hotel, it was cold with some snow left from yesterdays fall, and ice. This whole area is some two or more meters below sea level, and is criss-crossed by canals and waterways. Indeed Aalsmeer means Aals lake. The only geology I could see is in the sides of a newly dug excavation by a building site, the soil is light coloured sandy silt. It was not fully daylight, but there appeared to be shell fragments in the sand/silt.

Help Wanted Identifying Unusual Stone

My dad found this unusual stone many years ago whilst strolling along a beach on the South Coast of England (he can't remember which one). It's made up of three smooth spheres that appear to have been fused together. The stone is lighter along the joins and they have a sandy texture. My dad thought it was a lump of old iron, but it is not magnetic and not as heavy. I was wondering if anyone out there might know what it is and how it came to be on the South Coast.

Many Thanks!

Paul.

I've Fallen Off The Face Of The Earth!

Well once again, sorry I haven't been able to give GR my full attention recently I've been a busy bunny! I've not really fallen off the face of the earth, I'm in Cardiff for the next nine months studying MSc Care of Collections, I'm really looking forward to it, lectures start next week.

On a related note I don't suppose anyone knows of any part-time jobs going in Cardiff at the moment do they?

Thanks.

Ideas

I'm in a bit of a creative mood (it happens every now and again - I get periods where I get lots of ideas, then nothing for a while) and have thought of a list of tutorials I would like to see on this site in the near future. My aim is that I could write them, but I'm sure folk who've been around here a while know that whilst I aim to do a lot of good things, I don't seem to always get around to them...So, I thought I'd list them here, so other people could have a go first, if I don't get there!
