Inspired by Eyjafallajokull

Possibly the worst kept blog in the world? After many trials, tribulations and near-misses I passed my first OU course and was awarded my Certificate in Natural Sciences at the end of last year. Moving house and following Fulham round Europe has meant my Geosciences degree has slipped. however, I am restarting tonight. To get me back in to it, and in preparation for my Geology module later this year, I am doing this short course http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course/s186.htm

I actually signed up to do this course prior to the Eyjafallajokull eruption making the news headlines, however, there does not seem a better time to look at these fascinating aspects of our planet, given the wall to wall coverage on many media

Personal favourites at the moment include these amazing photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/rebba/4540671802/ and this brilliant show from Radio 4, discussing not only the impacts of the eruption but the merits of using geological engineering in the battle against climate change http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00s3gqc/Costing_the_Earth_Volcanoes_Friend_or_Foe/
