IDA Unveiled

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't yet seen the news:

Whilst perhaps a little sensationalist it's interesting nonetheless...

IDA

Thank you for the news link. What I find interesting about Ida is that no one has mentioned why such a scientifically significant site is a private commercial quarry or how it was possible such a significant find that on a shelf for a decade.

Ida is clearly not the "Missing Link" but a valuable contribution to the puzzle.

Cheers!

I guess it's just a matter

I guess it's just a matter of money, in an ideal world ALL exceptional fossil sites would belong to the public - although perhaps it's better that they shouldn't be too easily accessible.

As for stuff sitting on a shelf for a decade, I wish I could say that was uncommon. Specimens can remain "lost" in museums for many decades - most of the time due to poor records, and curators genuinely not knowing the significance of a particular find.
