Pahoehoe Lava

Pahoehoe lava formed during the 19th Century eruption on Lanzorote, Canary Islands. Pahoehoe forms from less viscous lava than the more rubbly, Aa, creating ropey looking structures. This rock is basalt and the white areas are a modern lichen.
