The west face of the Capitan Reef. The uppermost massive limestone is the Lower Capitan formation made up of bryozoa and sponges, forming the Capitan Reef. The reef can be seen to prograde from left to right. The rocks are relatively undeformed, meaning this is the palaeotopography in the Permian. The rocks at the base of the section are fine basin muds and turbidites, which lead into carbonate debris flow, reef talus before reaching the reef facies after around 700m.
