I am very sorry to hear
Fri, 05/30/2008 - 10:09I am very sorry to hear about your problem. However, considering the extremely(!!!) cheap price, the sizes given (1/4 inch = 6 mm) and the fact that it is from ebay I must also say that this was simply bound to happen as it did. Still, very sorry to hear. People who trick other like that should not be allowed to.
Also, the new ebay rating system no longer allows for negative feedback. You can only give sellers positive feedback. I see no reason why sellers won't give themselfs somehow positibe feedback.
Ok, Ok, don't rub it in

It really did seem like a good idea until I pressed the send money button on paypal.
An update: Spoke to a chap at paypal and he agrees that it is a tad dodgey being sent from France and 'returned' to Canada. He has logged my concerns and has given me the snail mail addresss of a manager in Dublin, so maybe all is not lost...lmao (yeah right, )

Buying rock samples from EBAY....big mistake.
Submitted by micklemas on Fri, 05/30/2008 - 00:02.Pretty much new at this rock thing and decided to buy some hand samples of named rocks. In theory it makes sense, if you find a rock and it looks like sample xxxx then it is probably that. Sadly in practice it went down hill quickly.
The item I found was £7 plus postage from Canada £10
ROCK COLLECTION
96 small World Stones & Gems
Stones vary from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch
It was from an ebay shop (okamineral) with 98% positive feedback. Sounds good.
After 8 days I recieve a plain yellow A4 envelope folded in half, about 1cm thick, posted from France with the sellers name on it and a 4 Euro (£3) stamp. Inside was a .5cm thick, A5 size, piece of plastic with a piece of paper split into 96 squares with rock and mineral names printed on it. Across its length were 8 lengths of doublesided sticky foam with the rocks and minerals stuck near the right name (except even with my untrained eye I know pyrite when I see it and it is definatly not Canadian native gold). To my horror most of the samples were below 4mm at their widest point with some barely 1.5mm and most have been taken off a necklace / bracelet so have been tumbled and have holes drilled through them.
After a few minutes of stunned inactivity I contacted the seller and arranged to return the item. Amazingly he demanded I 'return' it to him in Canada, negating the fact it came from France. Needless to say I asked him to pay the £10.90 postage and he refused and made a claim with paypal who have informed me I have 10 days to return the item to him in Canada at my expense!!! or I have to accept the item and live with it.
So now I have a choice of returning it and getting a refund of £17 meaning I have to spend £10.90 for absolutely nothing, or keeping it and have £17's worth of junk. Some choice.
So for any newbies like me, be aware that all is not what it seems on ebay and hopefully some of the more experienced members here will give us some tips on the best places to get hand samples that are worth their weight in postage.
