I went to the bakewell rock exchange at the weekend...
3rd year running (this time without a wife and baby to, erm, `hold me back`)
If youve never heard of it, Its a nice sized show held in Bakewell once a year. The onus is on rocks and minerals rather than more commecialised stuff, and there are a fair few people who only ever show/sell stuff at this particular show. I like it as its one of the few shows to the middle/north of the UK, rather than the 1001 that seem to show up around london/the south I cant get to!
It was a good day (I went saturday) - plenty of mineral samples there and thankfuly (as far as im concerned) not too much commercial stuff (all that crystal healing stuff and lovely rocks with holes drilled in them for candles etc.)
I didnt think there were quite as many exhibitors there as last year, but prices between stalls seemed more consistent than when ive been before and there were some bargains to be picked up, especially if you haggled a bit.
Some people had bought along bits just for the sake of showing them - very nice - and I wish I could have afforded some of the stuff on Craigs stall in the large hall (£xxxx.xx)
I did like that several of the stalls had minerals that had been found in and around the area/in the uk, and the people on those stalls were the ones responsible for finding them. I had no end of good chats with people about finding/preperation/care/etc.
Saturday late morning/midday = LOTS of families with kids, so its gets a bit crowded and parking can be fun.
When it comes around again in 2006, I can heartily recommend it!
