Well guys I didn't say 'believe in them' .......... but remember Wagener got laughed at for his continental drift theory in about 1905 (?) and it wasn't accepted until 1963. About 10 or 15 years after his death
Did you know that a young PhD student called Rutherford discovered radio active decay. He was called to present his paper and to his dismay saw that Lord Kelvin was in the audience, who had calculated the age of the earth from the thermal gradient in mines.
Rutherford thought he was going to be in for a really hard time, and his journal afterwards read 'To my immense relief Lord Kelvin fell asleep' Winking
