What did I find?.......

Hello All,

I was hiking in the Cascade mountains of Central Oregon the other day and while crossing a stream I saw this.  The strangest thing about it are the two flat sides which are at a almost perfect 90 degree angle.  Normally I would think that this might be man made but I was in the middle of nowhere and in the middle of a stream.  The only reason I saw it was because the sun hit one of the flat sides perfectly and caught my eye.

The entire rock has a kind of burnt/shiny surface and the flat sides are very flat.  It measures about an inch square and is similar in weight to granite but just doesn't seem like granite.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help and I appreciate anything you all can offer,

Thanks

Keaton

A guess ...

As always, this remote diagnosis of rocks / fossils is difficult but my best guess is that this is a gabbro (coarse grained, basic igneous - unlike granite which is coarse grained, acid igneous).

The flat sides could be joint surfaces.
