Stratigraphic log...

Hello,

Me again- sorry for asking so many questions! Smiling face

I visited teesdale area many years back, and revisted recently and recorded a sedimentary log.

I found this sequence from base to top...

Limestone + bivalves + coral

Sandstone hardened

Sandstone friable/crumbly

Ganister hardened sandstone +calamite (suggesting its a paleosol)

Shale

Ganister

I was just wondering what sequence of depositional environments this might suggest and what shore facies? i was thinking shallow normal salinity marine for limestone, then moving into deltaic channels for sandstone, then delta top for calamite/shale so more lagoonal organic rich environment.....?

I might be completely wrong in terms of interpretation so any advice/comments greatly appreciated! Smiling face

Thankyou once again!

John

This sounds like a Yoredale

This sounds like a Yoredale Sequence  (ganister is associated with these sequences) overlain with littoral deposits............and more like Jons field of expertise in sedimentation.
