Ocean Salinity Around Oceanic Ridges

Is it true that salt can be removed from seawater around ocean ridges? I thought I read that when sea water percolates through newly formed oceanic crust, it eventually encounters hotter material which changes the chemistry of the water, adding mineral matter and removing salt.

I don't know where I read this, I know water chemistry is changed, but I am not sure whether or not it's true that salt is removed. I can't seem to find anything about this online, all I get is general information about sea floor spreading.
