need help identifying stones

hi all, i'm new here, and i recently got a bunch of rocks from a friend. the problem is that i don't know what kind of rocks they are . i was wondering if someone could help me identify them?

here are the pictures:

number 1 is not black but actually dark green. number 8 is actually a bit lighter than in the picture, and number three has a light spot on one side that looks like an eye (i can get a pic of it if you want). numbers five and seven have a weird texture, they feel a bit like soap. any help is appreciated. thanks!

Indeed, I think you may be right there...

1. Specular Heamatite?
2, 3, and 4. Malachite?
5. ?
6. Amethyst
7. Quartz?
8. Obsidian?
9, 10. ???
11. Torquise?
12. ?
13. As 12?
14. ?

Hopefully someone with more "mineral identifiying" skills than I have will come along soon Winking

Difficult to say what they are when they're polished. I'd guess:

1. Smoky quartz or hematite.
2. Amazonite
3. Malachite or more probably artificially stained agate
4. ditto
5. Hematised quartz.
6. Amethyst
7. Milky quartz
8. same as 1
9. Agate
10. Quartz
11. artificially stained quartz
12 jasper
13 same as 11
14 jasper

Bit difficult without actually being able to 'see them in the flesh' and touch, but I rekon:-

1. Agate
2. Aventurine
3. Agate - bordering on 'moss agate'
4. ditto
5. Carnelian
6. Amethyst
7. Calcite or milky quartz ( try hardness or acid test)
8. possibly labradorite
9. Agate bordering on carnelian
10. Agate (many just do not have a 'name')
11. Agate - dyed
12. Carnelian
13 Agate - dyed
14. Carnelian

AARGH.. The bane of all geologists - being asked to identify polished pebbles!

Only kidding, here are my suggestions:

1. Looks like basalt or smoky quartz to me

2. Limestone?

3. Agate

4. Agate or quartz

5. Agate or quartz

6. Calcite

7. Chalk? difficult to make out.

8. Looks like nicely polished basalt

9. Agate

10. Limestone

11-14 all agate...

Then again I'm probably wrong. Try testing the hardness...

All these suggestions and this Panther Shadow seems to have dropped off the edge of the world!
