Identification Of These Rocks

I found these rocks around the Great Langdale area of the Lake District. The rock is slate, with what I believe to be quartz (though I am new to geology.)

Please could someone identify what it is and any other relevant information.

I agree that the mineral is

I agree that the mineral is quartz but I think the matrix rock is tuff, a consolidated volcanic ash.

Thanks for that answer. I

Thanks for that answer. I also collected this piece of rock which at first I thought was slate, but I guess it is tuff again. Please could you just confirm for me, also on this item of rock there is a bronze coloured streak on the rock, what is this?

Looks like another volcanic

Looks like another volcanic rock to me.  Slate tends to split very easily along clearly defined planes (think of roof slates).  The brown colouration will be a surface coating of iron oxides which may be an oxidation product from the rock itself or could be from contact with something made from iron (like a metal fence stake).
