Help with this pebble?

Please would someone be able to explain about the red/white material going through this pebble?

I have had this for years after my grandfather found it, and it has always puzzled me!

Many thanks

Andy

The curse of the missing

The curse of the missing photo strikes again! See here for info on how to add photos to posts:

(besides a photo, you could try scratching the red/white material with a steel nail. If it's scratches, it's most likely calcite. If it doesn't, it's quartz. Both a common minerals that occur in veins. The red material is likely calcite/quartz with extra iron).

Looks like a lump of

Looks like a lump of limestone to me. It's therefore likely the vein is calcite. The red is red calcite. Scratching is the only way to be sure though.

(Normal disclaimer that I might be wrong Smiling face )
