Wed, 06/04/2014 - 14:04Im thinking this is a camera anomoly or some kind of shadow, this is because its much much darker than any other geological feature around it, and the boundaries are much sharper.
Would be helpful to see a series of images so we could compare the frames.

Wed, 06/04/2014 - 14:48I can assure you it's not an anomaly nor a shadow for I have seen lots of those allways on slopes, some darker than others. I finally got a response a few minutes ago from a member of a mars forum and he told me it could be a sand slide or a trail left by a dust devil, since the sand below the surface is much darker. Both options could expose that darker layer. But still I find it strange that it has such well defined contours. As soon as I get some free time (working right now) I'll post more examples.
Thank you
Ok here are more examples, not so dark like the first one but definetly the same thing:

Dark area - what is it?
Submitted by Filipe on Wed, 06/04/2014 - 10:48.Hi all,
I'm not sure if my topic really fits in here, since this is a geology forum and the picture I'm posting is not on earth but on mars...
I've been trying to find/register in specific forums about mars but with no success until now...
Anyway I think there are many thing in common with the geology of both planets so... I've been browsing through many recent photos of the surface of mars and found some these kind of dark areas. Do you know of anything similar on earth? Seems to appear on gentle slopes.
Thank you
