The Whin Sill affected many
Tue, 12/11/2012 - 20:04The Whin Sill affected many adjacent rocks but only to a very limited extent. In fact you'll find that the contact metamorphism in some places doesn't extend much more than a couple of metres from the intrusion. So actual rock alteration in conglomerates would hardly be visible apart from a slight change in colouration.

Conglomerate metamorphism..
Submitted by allen98 on Thu, 11/29/2012 - 14:48.Hello!
What would I expect to see in low grade contact metamorphism of a conglomerate? Re-crystallisation of the matrix? The rock becoming more indurated?...
Are there any books/papers which go into this matter? Its a conglomerate in teesdale underlying the whin sill but unlike in the limestone, i couldnt see any thermal effects within the conglomerate (Orton Group)
Ive heard of meta-congomerates but they seem to be high grade metamorphism typically from very high heat and/or pressure....
Any advice on the matter greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
