Can you help identify?

Dug it out of the creek under the water.  I typically look for rocks for my fish tank.  I'm very picky with how I decorate it.  Only the coolest looking rocks go in the tank.  I like this one but I want to know what it is 1st.

From your picture it could

From your picture it could be almost anything.  What springs to mind is either chalk -from the colour (but you say it came from a stream therefore it is unlikely) or flint. Without seeing the actual surface (it appears to be coated) or the inside, I don't think anyone can be 100% sure.

You should be very careful about what rocks you put in your fishtank.  Rocks are comprised of minerals, and minerals, at the end of the day, are a bunch of chemicals, some of which can precipitate out.

I agree with John, looks like flint to me.  I'm not going down the alien route this time.
