Hi Basalt is a very dense
Wed, 09/12/2012 - 15:41Hi
Basalt is a very dense blackish to dark greenish igneous rock which is extremely hard. It is crystalline but the crystals are so small as to not be distinguishable with the naked eye. Sometimes gas bubbles have left small cavities, known as vesicles. Apparently they are common along the shores of the Great Lakes. If you collect anything and want it identified, send us a photo.

Submitted by leahrose on Wed, 09/12/2012 - 02:52.i'm a massage therapist and upon purchasing hot stone kits i've found that the rocks don't fit my hands or body contours the way i'd like
it would be great if i could find my own stones and build up a cellection that works better for me and my clients
could someone tell me how i can identify a basalt stone and where to find them?
i live in Michigan, i understand that many people find them on lake Michigan
hoping someone stops by and answers my questions!
thank you!
