Could you make a foto of it
Thu, 05/22/2008 - 18:54Could you make a foto of it when it is dry and put a scale for comparision next to it?
The quite big "bubbles" confuse me a bit. Do you have 5 to 10% hydrochloric acid to put a drop on the rock when it is dry?
I have a few things on my mind like silt/sandstones interlayered with claystone or maybe marl but with these very round bubbles I could also imagine a weird kind of furnace slag.
I'll wait for a dry foto.
No problem at all! Though

Though I'm not from the UK so I have no idea how big a 2 pence piece ise. I assume that's 1 to 3 centimeters..
I am quite amazed to read that it is dry!!! I think that makes it more likely to be a weirdly washed piece of furnace slag. Are you thinking about keeping it? If not you could smash it with a hammer to give us a clue about how it looks in a fresh exposure.
Yes, I think you are both

A collection of slag could be fascinating - it could be linked to a study of the economic geology and industrial archaeology of an area.
