I'm up for it, but I think
Thu, 05/23/2013 - 19:52I'm up for it, but I think you might find early autumn is better. All the grockles have gone home and B&B is cheaper.
People tend to be too busy during the summer. Having said that more and more new shows are not even bothering with spring and early summer and placing them in Sept and Oct. I've actually got quite a bit booked, but I had though of the gold panning weekend (try again!).

I suggested Devon as a
Fri, 05/24/2013 - 06:43I suggested Devon as a possible location a while ago, maybe the Bampfylde mine area because visible gold has been found there recently (and also because it's not too far from where I live). I could only get there for a day though as my wife is very ill and not likely to get sorted out for a long time, if ever. I avoid overnight stays anywhere unless it's absolutely necessary.
I'm up for that, although
Fri, 05/24/2013 - 20:50I'm up for that, although I'd stay over and make a weekend of it. Possibly camping.
Can I suggest the exact location and date is done on PMs for those who are interested.

That's a great suggestion
Fri, 05/24/2013 - 21:32That's a great suggestion Gus, and I do understand that not everyone can make overnight trips. Very sorry to hear about your wife. Lovely that you stay close to her though
And yes we can arrange specifics by PM of course. But I thought it might be best to advertise the trip openly, as not sure if people felt a bit strange with me messaging them recently
Certainly let people know
Sat, 05/25/2013 - 20:53Certainly let people know about the trip, but there are very few of us on here really.
I sent Jon a PM months ago about a tutorial for the site, but heard nothing back. But he must visit the site because those 'stoopid' ads get wiped out every now and again.
Ben used to be in touch with Jon and Kate. Is he still?
I met them at the History Festival last year. But I'm not doing it this year. All down to greedy organisers. The pitch was £30 last year. They want £75 this year. No way. Great shame.

Hi Have just picked up this
Wed, 06/05/2013 - 20:01Hi
Have just picked up this message.
i am interested in a weekend camping, gold panning. I can do Sept/Oct, but only weekends as being a teacher I will be unable to make a weekday meet.
Hope it goes ahead as it sounds exciting and would be a great way for a novice like me to improve my knowledge.
Adele.
We shall certainly copy you
Wed, 06/05/2013 - 20:54We shall certainly copy you in Adele. Please don't think you will make your fortune though! The best you'll do is a tenner on the lottery.

GR meet
Submitted by Just_Jenny on Wed, 05/22/2013 - 20:56.Hi all,
I've added this post to 'Non-conventional Ideas' because it seems to be 'out of the box' thinking to arrange a GR meet. However, it can be a lot of fun to meet up with like-minded people, and I think this group would enjoy a weekend camping somewhere geologically intriguing. Having spoken to John, I understand it was an original intention of this forum for people to get together to go on field trips, and I know some people here are quite keen to do this.
Timing and location seem to be the key obstacles, though, so perhaps we should agree to those first. Will this be a trip in England or further afield? Is summertime the best time to arrange a trip given the weather?
Who is up for this?
