The Changes in the Ozone Layer May Be the Beginning of other changes in the atmosphere of the earth.

The seven layers of the gaseous heavens, mentioned in the Quran, or the stratosphere, are going to cleave, split and return to their initial state of smoke, after the gases of these layers will mix with each other. This stratosphere has its origin from the earth itself; because at the start of its formation, the atmosphere of the earth was full of smoke that emerged from it when it was hot, then it separated into distinct layers present now above the region of the cloud which separate the air below from the seven gaseous layers above the cloud where no wind is there to mix these gases.

God – be exalted – said in the Quran, 2: 164

{إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلاَفِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَالْفُلْكِ الَّتِي تَجْرِي فِي الْبَحْرِ بِمَا يَنفَعُ النَّاسَ وَمَا أَنزَلَ اللّهُ مِنَ السَّمَاء مِن مَّاء فَأَحْيَا بِهِ الأرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ دَآبَّةٍ وَتَصْرِيفِ الرِّيَاحِ وَالسَّحَابِ الْمُسَخِّرِ بَيْنَ السَّمَاء وَالأَرْضِ لآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ}

The explanation: (Behold, in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in ships which run upon the sea with that which benefits people; in the water that God sends down from the sky, thereby reviving the earth after its death, and dispersing all kinds of beasts therein; and in the changing of winds, and in the cloud subjected [into service] between the sky and the earth, are signs to people who have sense.)

Then in the last of the time, some changes will occur in these stratified gaseous layers, so they will have many holes, will be cleft, split and return to be smoke as were they at the start.

God -be exalted - said in the Quran, 52: 9

يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَاءُ مَوْرًا

The explanation: (Upon the day when the sky will violently heave.)

And it is mentioned in the Book of Prophet Isaiah, chapter 51 “Lift up your eyes to heaven, and look down to the earth beneath: for the ‘heaven’ shall vanish like smoke, and the inhabitants thereof shall perish in like manner.”

Moreover, God -be exalted – said also in the Quran, 69: 16

وَانشَقَّت السَّمَاءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ

The explanation: (And [the gaseous layers of] the sky will split asunder; for on that day it will be shabby.)

Therefore, (it will be shabby) indicates that it will be torn.

In addition, God -be exalted - said in the Quran, 78: 19

وَفُتِحَت السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا

The explanation: (And the heaven [shall] be parted open and have [many] gates.)

And there are many Quranic revelations that bear the same meaning.
