Firstly - it is econimical
Sun, 06/24/2012 - 17:35Firstly - it is economical to mine gold at 5 grams per tonne. A tonne of mobile phones contains just over 20 grams of gold, and smaller amounts of various other precious metals. That is why they bought you old phone and a thousand others.
Secondly - none of us would even hazard a guess at what your rock is without a photo and a better description. We need information such as the hardness - can you scratch it with your nail, or with a steel. How does it weigh against the same volume of water. Is it all one type of mineral or do you think there might be different types within it. Where did it actually come from (locality).
There are around 450 different minerals. If you then take all their variants it comes out at around 14,000. Do you see the problem?

Need to identify!
Submitted by BenNeedsHelp on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 13:42.Hi everyone
Okay this is the story.. I found a few old phones in a draw and i decided i would seel them in return i got a fair amount of money back so I bought a metal detector on the second day of hunting for things i found a weird rock which made my metal detector go beserk! So i washed it and scrubbed it down.. I went around all the houses near by and no one could identify it and everyone was intrigued by it I then decided to go to a libary and the in books there i found nothing I then went on the internet looking and I didn't find anything.. So i called around and found nothing.. I then decided to do some test with it for instances is it magnectic? No. Does it float on water? No. I really would like to know what this rock is Also.. It has shinny things in it that look like silver.. Please help much appreciated
