You are just the bloke we need. We are planning a gold panning weekend at the end of September. Interested?

Thanks for the welcome
Wed, 06/06/2012 - 21:49Thanks for the welcome John. May be up for a spot of panning later in the year, will have to get a bit of practice first so I don't look like a complete fool!!
May have to bring a bit of broken up shale that I brought back from South Africa as it's 76.6 g/tonne, would make my pan look good.
Give me a shout nearer the time and maybe we can get things together. What location were you thinking of looking at for the panning?
Mike
Thanks Gus, you're familiar
Thu, 06/07/2012 - 18:48Thanks Gus, you're familiar with CSM no doubt (befoer the relocation for me!!).
Will have to let you have a link sometime to some of the SA photos of me underground, some good geology as well as practical extraction

We're a lovely bunch here, I'm sure you'll find ![]()
I'm Leah a geology masters grad from UoP currently living in Western Australia, working as an exploration Geologist in well pretty much anything the office throws at me, Gold, RE's and Iron so far.
Take Care

Didn't realise you were in
Tue, 06/12/2012 - 10:06Didn't realise you were in West Aus. Leah. Wanna go and say hello to my ex wife?
Last address I had for her was Dog Swamp in Perth....what an awful name, but apparently a fairly pleasant suburb.

HaHa John, I've been
Thu, 06/14/2012 - 12:34HaHa John,
I've been through Dog Swamp, awful name, awful neighbourhood! not somewhere I'd live by choice! Or even visit again.
Yep, WA is very nice and I have an awesome boss too, currently being trained in 3D modelling to be "promoted" (well it's a side step really) to resource estimation geologist

Yes it is an awful name, but
Thu, 06/14/2012 - 15:59Yes it is an awful name, but I didn't know it was a bad neighbourhood. Mind you that was 25 years ago I had that address. She's re-married and moved now.
Glad to know the job is going well. Well done. Thinking of staying there?
Are there any more jobs there? Javi-geo (from this site) is looking. Since he got his PhD he has been unemployed. His English is excellent. He even did his thesis in English with just one mistake on tense, and he had his pc set to Microsoft English - so more Z's that we generally like to see.

There's always jobs out
Fri, 06/15/2012 - 07:29There's always jobs out here, but you need to be prepared to pay your own way to get here and get a visa sorted before anyone will take you on, and when they do they'll sponsor you on a long-term visa and generally look after you well. I's suggest waiting until after the US elections though as the economy is doing strange things to geology over here! The mine site that hubby works at has just shut down one of its underground production mines, and a couple of smaller companies have gone bust. But that is just in WA (where we mainly do Fe and Au) over East there's plenty of coal and seam gas to get into

Hi - New here
Submitted by Madala on Wed, 06/06/2012 - 21:34.Hi, I'm Mike from Cornwall and new to this site. I've worked in the Mining Industry in South Africa for a breif period (2 years) in which I mined gold just outside of J'berg. Previous to that I studied at CSM and work for a period at South Crofty Tin Mine.
Just getting back into Geology after a period off so bring it on.
Cheers,
Mike
