Hello! Welcome to GeologyRocks! I know Cleethorpes - it is very very dull geologically, unfortunately. Only a short drive up the east coast to more interesting things though ![]()
Just being curious, do you know who your OU tutor is in Edinburgh?

Thanks all, In real life I am a coach driver and had the pleasure of taking a group to Whitby 2 weeks ago. They went shopping and I went fossil hunting. Fantastic day, got a nice 6cm Hildoceras Ammonite which took a week to get out the matrix, loads of belemnites including one infused with pyrite and still got a few nodules to crack . Keep telling the boss to make it a regular trip but he ain't listening.
I don't know which tutors I will have in Edingburgh yet. Its an intensive week of lab and field work covering many aspects of natural science so more than one tutor (check OU website for course SXR103 for details and S103 is the one I just completed now under code S104). When I find out some of the tutors names I will let you know. As an aside I advise anyone to have a look at the website and see if there is a course for you. Its a fantastic experience and allows you to still work full time (good chance of getting a fee grant as well).
I live on the opposite side of the Humber
Not in Hull are ya, my boss lives their and ain't shut up about winning the football playoffs yet. lol
I am a Humbersider, though
Sat, 05/31/2008 - 06:59I am a Humbersider, though like everyone except the post office*, I ignore the fact that Humberside ever existed.
I can't say I get out geologising much locally... I've found the odd fossil in the river (from glacial gravels i suspect) but not done too much nearby. There's the boulder clay along Holderness if that floats your boat, but the nearest decent outcrops of anything older are the cliffs at Flamborough and the odd Wolds quarry. I've not looked at either in great detail, I must confess.
*Come on people, my address hasn't been in North Humberside since 1996, nor has any other! Time to move on!

OK cheers mate. I will keep stalking the coast and see what turns up, until I can escape the armpit of England for more exotic locations.

Hi all
Submitted by micklemas on Thu, 05/29/2008 - 23:26.Hello everyone, just stumbled upon you (hop I didn't squash anyone) while looking for rock information. My names Mike and I live in Grimsby, N.E. Lincs., probably the most boring geological place in Britain.
I have just completed my first Open University course which had a small section on geology, which ignited my childhood passion for rocks. Spent many endless hours walking up and down the Grimsby and Cleethorpes coast looking for anything that looks good to clutter my desk up with. Problem is I have no clue what they are...lol Heading for a week at Edinburgh University with the OU with a geology / biology fieldtrip to Aberdour and Kinghorn in July.
Speak to you all soon.
