Hello from Romania

Hi, my name is Andrew and I love collecting rocks and minerals, mainly because there is such a big variety of minerals in the Carpathians and because I love Chemestry.Collecting rocks is one of my hobbies, ever since I was a kid,I used to collect every rock that looked a bit unusual and looked up for it in a book. Now I'm 15 and I still love collecting rocks and I plan learning more about Geology.

Well that's with my introduction, now I'd really like to put a question regarding a rock:When I was about 6 I traveled with my parents to the anniversary of Stephen the Great (500th),in Tusnad,Romania. In front of the house where we spent our nights, there was an excavation site.Me and my friend went there and found alot of semi-transparent green rocks, which were very very hard and heavy(a rock with a diameter of 6cm was as heavy as a large brick).I didn't take any rocks because I found a red sign with a black skull and 2 bones and a stickman running from it in the middle of the site, which scared me....well now it doesn't because I still want to know what kind of rock was that.

That's it!Thanks in advance for any answer! ;)

Welcome, Andrew! We share

Welcome, Andrew!

We share the same interests, except I'm in the USA.

Without a picture or other data, it's hard to make a firm conclusion, but I'm going to guess that it was fluorite that you found. Let's see what the others say.

Yes, your English is very good.  Though I often find anyone in the world can speak English better than we can stammer out any foreign phrase.  It is a great source of shame for me, as a linguist.

So what are some of the most amazing geological features of Romania, Andrew?
