Hello Carrie, and welcome to GR.

 Please do get involved, and if you live near enough to the Wiltshire border I shall make every attempt to recruit you for the Wiltshire Geology Group. 

I suppose Somerset has got a geology club, but I must confess I've not heard anything about them.

If you are the other end of the county (my parents used to have The Anchor at Watchet) I intend doing a field trip to Watchet/Donniford Bay to collect Planorbis, and generally the same day I take them to Portishead.  Depends on the tide times because it is dangerous.

Is there a facebook page for your group?

I am very amateur in comparison to many who post here; however, I am also extremely interested and keen to learn from those with so much knowledge to impart!

Sorry.  I don't book faces, twitter, twixs, bleat, or exfolioate.  No social networks at all I'm afraid.

The Watchet trip I was thinking of for next spring to be honest.  However, I am planning a gold panning 'expedition' weekend in late September with a few of the members on here, and a few others.  Be warned. No guarantees on striking it rich.  Almost guaranteed that we will be wet cold and miserable and therefore forced to take refuge and substanance  in a local hostelry.

If you are interested let me or Gus know.  Details will be via a PM or your email. 

You don't have to be a geology expert to be on here.  There is lots to learn, and you WILL know something the rest of us don't know.

 Welcome to GR.  I'm based in Newquay, Cornwall, favourite haunt of surfers, stag/hen-nighters and grumpy locals.

Thank you, John - definitely interested. Just thought I'd ask about facebook as I can access it more easily on my mobile, which is usually more handy; however, of course it isn't necessity. I don't understand twitter (or exfoliation for that matter!!).

 Jon,  send me your telephone number/address/emailin a pm and I will get Isobel (or whoever is the current membership secretary) to contact you.  Its is a whole £5 a year!!! Our AGM is usually in May - and beware they may be looking for another Chairman.

I did think about doing Chairman until I got this 'part time' job.  I'm now doing 4 1/2 days a week, plus going to be teaching evening classes in the autumn.
