I prefer the 'Hard Rock

I prefer the 'Hard Rock Geology' as well (more minerals in igneous and metamorphic rocks) but even with volcanics there are the best part of a lot of different rocks.

Where are you studying?

My background is

My background is completely non-academic.  I left school with very few qualifications and started work at a quarry, then went on to being a miner.  Having said that, due to my interests in caving, mine exploration and getting outdoors in general, I've managed to contribute to our knowledge of a variety of  geological phenomena, ranging from ophiolite emplacement to karst hydrology, but it's all been through fieldwork and I've never ever been in a lab.  If you trawl through the previous posts you'll see I tend to shy away from the more technical posts.  I like to think of myself as the forum hooligan.
