Hi and welcome!

Hi Georgia, welcome to the group.

To find out if there is any gold in your quartz, you can try crushing up a chunk into a fine dust and pan it with a gold pan. If there is any visible gold in it, you will find it in the bottom of the pan. You could also take a chunk somewhere to be assayed.

You could also collect material (dirt) from around the quartz that has been erroded and try panning it too. Collect material that has been trapped in crevices and dig down and collect and sample material from above bedrock or a clay layer. If there is any gold in that rock, you should find traces of it in these samples.

Just because it's quartz, doesn't mean there is gold in it. Gold is hard to find, that's why it's so expensive. Red/orange stained quartz or quartz that is kind of ugly has a good chance of having gold.

Good luck. I hope you strike it rich! Austrailia has a lot of gold. I wish I lived there.

Thanks! Yeah I know I'm not

Thanks! Yeah I know I'm not expecting gold but I thought it was worth a shot... I love on a farm so there is lots of lumps of quartz.. The but I have is 25kilos and looks white and red on the outside but more black on the inside... Not looking good for gold but still pretty
