I concur with Jon. The major
Tue, 05/26/2009 - 09:28I concur with Jon. The major oil companies offer internships and competition is fierce, not just to get one but to get taken on by the company afterwards. I had an internship with BP but did not get taken on at the end of it (a fact I'm happy about now although it was upsetting at the time).
Don't forget the Norwegian companies, Norsk Hydro, Statoil (at least I think they're Norwegian!)
And also explore the 'service' side of the industry. A lot of the major oil companies outsource their technical and data-gathering teams so look at companies such as Fugro for actually carrying out and processing the geophysical work.
Hope this is of use to you.
thanks
Wed, 08/26/2009 - 22:17Thanks for your advice.
Just one thing again.
I intend to study just a on master's program in Geophysics at Uppsala Uni and then move to Norway to pursue a career in Petrolum Geophysics.
The purpose for this is that there is no oil in Sweden but Norway is one of the world's top-supplier.
Is that a good idea?
I also have a problem choosing between Oslo university and NTNU to pursue Petroleum Geophysics. Which of the two is the best for my program?

Summer Internship
Submitted by stanlis on Sat, 05/23/2009 - 13:02.Hi everyone,
I'll start a 2-year master's program in Geophysics in Uppsala University, Sweden.
Could someone help me with the lists of some oil companies that I can consider for internship in summer 2010.
I'd also like to find out about the Geophysics field that is most needed today in the oil and mining companies.
Hope to receive your responses and thanks for your time.
