Building an amateur well self potential meter

Hello:

I would like to make some experiencies measuring well self potential but with cheap equipment. Did anybody has tried to make it ?.    There is a little water well in the farm to test. I have a set of commercial volt-meters, and some hardware, but have no idea about making test probes and the appropiate circuit to use.

I would appreciate any suggestion.

Thanks very much, My best regards.

SP

You can do SP with a simple high impedance milli-voltmeter. The tricky part is the electrodes. In well logging the electrode down hole is on a pad pressed to the borehole wall and compared to a reference electrode at the surface. However, normally the SP effect is generated by ion concentration differences between the drilling mud filtrate and the formation fluid.
