Yellowstone Caldera and the Beartooth Mountains

I was looking at a map of the progression of the Yellowstone Calderas, and I had a question maybe someone here could answer.  The distance between the calderas seems to have decreased over time.  Is this because the plate has slowed down? The current caldera is surrounded on three sides by mountains.  Are these mountains the result of uplift by the magma chamber, or is the magma chamber beginning to go under the mountains?  Stupid question time:  How far down do those particular mountains go?  Could the magma chamber be "running into" the roots of the mountains?

I suggest you look at the USGS Yellowstone Observatory website which will explain the situation far better than me.
