Fri, 06/06/2014 - 14:23If the planning officer is adamant that your samples are artificial, ask him to provide a series of retailers that his office approves. and also why he claims them to be artificial.
You could ask your current suppliers to give further proof that it is natural sandstone, but i assume this is what the data sheets are.

It appears to be sandstone. With a hand-lens, most of us would say it was a mature sandstone with sub-rounded to rounded clasts. The only peculiarty at that magnification is that it is both clast and matrix supported, which although I have never personally seen, I feel is not beyond the bounds of possibility in some circumstances.
In fact it is reconstituted sand with a resin binder/cement. Very cleverly done, and very authentic looking.

Sandstone problem - planning say it is not natural stone
Submitted by paul69uk on Thu, 06/05/2014 - 22:00.Hi,
We have hit a real stumbling block with plannning officers. Natural sandstone is stipulated on the plans. We have provided samples of sandstone along with data sheets. Senior Planning Design & Heritage officer claims the stone is artificial having seen both samples and data sheet.
How come he cannot tell if the sandstone is natural? How do we convince him it is?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul
