rock formation

Hello everyone,

I have found these rock formation on open rock on an island outside Fredrikstad Norway and on a site of a vulcano in Namibia. The formation is center hole aproximately 5cm wide and 5cm deep and stars out from the center 0,5m to 1m diametry.

Do you recognize or have knowledge what is it/ how it's made?

It looks like freeze/thaw

It looks like freeze/thaw action which has shattered the rock.

Could well be, but I've

Could well be, but I've never seen anything like it.

It looks like it might be a quartzite.

I don't believe it could be

I don't believe it could be freeze/thaw because it's granite. I was considering lightining bolt hit. What do you think?

I still think it's a result

I still think it's a result of freeze/thaw which can affect any rock, including granite.  If the holes in the centre of the "stars" fill with water and there are extremes of temperature you would expect to find a feature exactly like the photo, especially in a very cohesive rock such as granite.  I've seen almost identical features in basalts and hard limestones.
