Grid Lines in Greenland??

Hey guys,

Not at all sure if this is the right place to put this, because I have no idea what it is.

My friend, who was flying over Greenland recently took this picture from the window of her aircraft:

I know for a fact the image has not been doctored in anyway, so what are those lines in the snow? This is not a defect of the camera either, as she could see them even through the naked eye.

Any explanations for this? I googled around but couldn't really get anything.

Absolutely no idea.  Almost

Absolutely no idea.  Almost certainly man-made.

Thanks for the reply!

If you notice the lines actually seem to even extend over the water! And even if they're man made... what are they? I've never seen anything like them.

I've sent it through to an old friend who is a Dr of geography.  He may be able tio throw some light on the matter.

I suspect an illusion of some kind.  The lines are straight, but the topography would be mountainous, so the lines should not appear straight, which leads me to suspect that the lines are not actually on the ground.
