Aging Rocks

Is there a method of dating rock samples that is possible from home or does it need to be professionally analyzed?

It depends on where they

It depends on where they came from and if they contain fossils, otherwise a lab could approximate dates for igneous rocks, for example.

You might also glean an idea

You might also glean an idea from a good geological map of the area. But the best you could hope for there is to get to a Stage, often not as precise as that.
