Thank you Gus. All these
Thu, 01/05/2012 - 19:09Thank you Gus. All these years and I never knew of your secret dating agenda!
Jenny has had some problems replying to posts lately, she's asked me to quote the following for her:
Lol, thanks Gus, I think... Honestly didn't expect it when I signed up but it's certainly cemented my love of the subject! So how was your New Year?
By the way, I love the pun on cemented my angel!

Lol, thanks John! I didn't
Wed, 01/11/2012 - 11:03Lol, thanks John! I didn't even notice anything going on until people started commenting on the threads to be honest. But I'm very glad it did happen. Hopefully Ben and I will get to meet you all on a field trip at some point, since this forum is what brought us together
Speaking of which, anyone have good ideas of possible romantic geological spots for a wedding?

Wed, 01/11/2012 - 12:20I went to a (unofficial) wedding in a cave in the Brecon Beacons called Eglwys Faen. The name means the "Church of the Rock". There were hundreds of candles arranged on ledges in a large chamber and the bride and groom wore white oversuits and wellies. Despite the mildly comic aspect of it, the ceremony was surprisingly moving and very atmospheric.
My idea of romantic probably doesn't conform to yours. I wanted to get married to my wife on the Man o'War Rocks off Lizard Point. They're the only bit of Gondwana in the UK, uncovered for about two hours at low tide (which is just enough time to get the business over and done with) and you probably can't get more than about a dozen people on them without losing somebody to the awesome waves which crash over them. That and a mass of seabirds would have made for an unforgettable experience but we opted for a registry office in the end.

Fri, 01/13/2012 - 11:30Just come across this which I found quite amusing. Signs you know you're marrying a geologist when...

Fri, 01/13/2012 - 13:53Absolutely great. So funny.....to the right people of course.
I've got one of these 'motivation posters' (clean one!) which is applicable, but I lost the instructions Ben sent me some time ago.

Fri, 01/13/2012 - 22:40Thanks for the congratulations John, and the great suggestions Gus. As Jenny said, it would certainly be good to get a fieldtrip together and meet you guys sommetime soon.
John, you need to upload your photo/pic to a free hosting website such as Photobucket or Picasa, copy the link provided by either for direct access (i.e. the bit that starts http://)then paste it into the appropriate field of the picture editor here on GR. Hope this helps.
Ben.

The Best New Year EVER!
Submitted by Benauld on Wed, 01/04/2012 - 20:55.I'm delighted to tell everyone here on GR that Just_Jenny and I are engaged! I'm sure some of you would have noticed how well we hit it off on the forums - that's me drooling by the way - and may well have wondered where we'd both disappeared to recently. Well, we were sharing valuable, and awesome, fun times together. And long may they continue!
Shortly after midnight on New Year's Eve, I was treated to the most wonderful, romantic, and genuinely lovestruck surprise of my life!
In a welcome and naturally, perfectly executed reversal of roles, Jenny took the Ben by the horns, so-to-speak, in true Leap Year tradition and got down on one knee to propose to me, amongst the sound of distant fireworks, and the beautiful glow of a plethora of tea-lights. I answered, "Yes" without a moment's hesitation, and I'm both immensely happy and proud to be building a life together with my fiancée, my Jenny.
I'm going to stop the gushing now, before it all gets too mushy for the GR veterans to take!
Needless to say, I forsee plenty of geological rambles together, most likely accompanied by a pack of hounds, in our future and I doff my cap to you Jon and Katie (although I'm not sure they ever read the forums anymore, even though somebody kindly keeps paying the hosting bill...) - indeed to GR itself - for bringing us together in the first place!
Exceedingly Happy, Excited, and In Love,
Ben.
