Hamps / Manifold Geotrail

Not really a GR fieldtrip but may be of interest to anyone near the Peak District this Sunday.

Staffordshire RIGS are launching their Hamps / Manifold Valley Geotrail this Sunday 25th February. The trail will be officially opened by Cynthia Burek, Professor of Geoconservation, University of Chester. Meet at 11am at Hulme End Visitor Centre Car park, SK103594

This geotrail, based on the Manifold Trail, the re-surfaced trackbed of the old Leek & Manifold Valley Light Railway from Hulme End to Waterhouses. For the launch, the walk will follow the geotrail on the east side of the Manifold as far as Wetton Mill, where refreshments will be available. The return to Hulme End will be along the Manifold Track. The total walking distance is about 7 km [4.5 miles].

If you can't make the launch you can download the geotrail guide from the SRIGS website or pick up a copy from local information points on the trail.
