Cornwall Trips
Mon, 07/03/2006 - 15:54Cheers Gus. Jon and I are hoping to have a geological-based trip to the South-West later in the year so we'll let you know if we do.
It all depends upon Jon finishing his PhD sooner rather then later. If not, we might have to leave it until next summer.

Please let me know where and when. I'm happy to take you to various sites of interest - Mendips to Bristol Channel coast Cotswolds to South coast.
Gus, Why not put a definite date on the notice board here. Lets see if we can tie it all up.
I did ask permission for Vancouver, but my application was turned down

Absolutely, I think it'd make a great trip. Thanks for the offer.
will there be pubs on the trips
Fri, 07/14/2006 - 13:56If you don't mind taking 'mad' geologists then my geology lecturer from St Austell college would be more than happy to go on trips, especially if there is a pub (or several dozen pubs) on the route. I have told him about this website many times but he has never used it, I will have to tell him again.

Fri, 07/14/2006 - 14:32Me again, what places would you recomend in Cornwall for geology. I cant put down a set date when I am free but have a 'speedy' Peugeot 106 diesel to get about and me and a few people I know would like to see more of the Cornish geology before we go off to take degrees in October.
Do you know anywhere where good mineral samples can be found.

I will be free just about any weekend in September for a field trip. If you want to collect minerals the number of locations is fast disappearing. The St Just area is out of bounds due to all the dumps becoming SSSIs; other areas such as Caradon are still fairly good but all need a bit of digging. I would suggest Caradon as a good field trip, so if you can gather a bunch of mates together in September, let me know.

Mon, 07/17/2006 - 18:21And me! And me!!!!
Although there is an exceptional low tide on 11th on the N Soms coast, and I am taking a party to Watchet/Donniford for Planorbis ( anyone want to join us? all mine are beginners) and I have got the Hampshire Mineral Show 23rd.

That's what I like to see - a bit of enthusiasm. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to get up to Somerset for the show because I'm booked to do a talk on the effects of the Cardiff barrage on the resident redshank population, but otherwise, keep trying mate and I'll make it one day.
If I get a date for a Sunday in late September how many people would want to come along?

Submitted by Gus Horsley on Mon, 07/03/2006 - 11:54.If anyone finds they end up on holiday, etc, in this part of the world, tell me where and when and I'll be happy to show you some of the multitude of geological marvels we have here in Cornwall. Just a couple of weeks notice is all I need, but it will have to be a weekend. And not the last couple of weeks in August 'cos I won't be here.
You can email me if you like. Or not.
