I hope your "better half"
Mon, 09/09/2013 - 11:44I hope your "better half" had a good day. When mine used to do similar stuff she had a better reasult than me but when I sell her ceramics at shows I do better than her. Is it possibly because most mineral buyers are probably male and ceramic buyers are probably female? I can't think that would be the case because I'm as ugly as sin. Just check out the avatar.

Mon, 09/09/2013 - 22:09Thanks Gus, but unfortunately she didn't. However it wasn't that bad. She was confused over a couple of things and asked Mike Brooks (Broadstone Minerals ) what one was. The reply was 'An ammonite I think'. Mike is very good on minerals, but knows nothing about fossils.
I gave her a load of stock boxes to sell (thinking they would be 'non-technical). She didn't manage to sell any - AT £3 FOR 10!!! A give away. So they will go to a car boot this Sunday.
However, Swanage was very good. The mainstay was some wood carvings from Thailand rather than the minerals.

a couple of mammoth teeth, Mosasaur teeth, Spinosaus teeth, sharks teeth
A slab of geisonoceras about 12" square.
Goniatite bookends
About 10 species of ammonite/goniatites i.e.Perisphinctus/Dactylioceras/Prochelinoceras/Desmoceras/ + more. Also bits of Cosmos (no complete specimen.)
Trilobites - Elrasthii Kingii, Pernosis Interstricta, Angelina Sedgewickii, Reedops, Hollardops, Phacops, Cambropallas and good old Diacalymene of course.
pieces of fossil wood. Echinoid (can't remember the species and the garage is too cold to be bothered to go and look!)
Amber - ever piece has something in. Range from £6 to £40 depending on the number of beasties. Had one (now sold) with a spider still in its web.
Coprolite.
You don't say where you are, but if its any help I am at Winchester the Sunday after next, the following Saturday at the Amateur Geologist Society Bazaar in Finchley, and the following day at Alton Christmas Street Fair.
If you can get to any of those and theres something you want, let me know (a PM is probably best) and I will make sure I take that item at least.
After that the next mineral and fossil show is the Essex show in February.

Saturday 7th September is the Hampshire Mineral & Fossil Fair. Run by the Southampton Mineral & Fossil Society.
10am to 4pm in the Community Centre, Lyndhurst in the New Forest. This is actually in the main car park, so no trouble there.
I believe entrance is £1. (certainly not much more)
My tables are 29 & 30, but I won't be there. My better half is doing it for me since I will be trading at a festival in Swanage.
Because she doesn't know very much about minerals and fossils I will be keeping the layout simple. I am selling off a whole load of magazines including twentyfive 'UK Mines & Minerals Journal'. The suppliers will sell you back copies of this publication at £10 each! I am asking £100 for the 25 copies (in pristine condition) also some other mineral magazines, including German ones.
There will also be a load of stock storage boxes at ridiculously low prices.
But the minerals will be all British, and they and the fossils will already be in trays for her just to place out.
Treat her gently!
