To ensure high quality geoscience support is provided to the exploration, appraisal, development and reservoir management of the Company assets. To assist with new business development activities, functional initiatives, recruitment, training and supervision of geoscience staff in the Geoscience Department, and management of technical work carried out by specialist consultancies. Key areas of resource involvement are in conventional exploration, appraisal and development activities.
The individual will develop, own and ensure effective implementation of resource technical development and production processes, compliance to standards, workflows, tools and best practices used in the geoscience evaluation of company resources. Liaison with the Head of Geoscience to assist in recruitment, training initiatives and peer reviews is also necessary.
Areas of responsibility
Give detailed functional direction, advice and coaching to the geoscience staff.
Ensure provision of consistent, detailed and integrated geoscience interpretations for operated and non-operated fields in partner meetings and through peer assists and reviews.
Ensure static reservoir models are constructed accurately and at the appropriate level of detail, incorporating structural, stratigraphic and reservoir characterisation.
Provide geoscience input into Cairns Resource Statement as appropriate, in the context of RAR and MT/ET meetings.
Provide sound geoscience input to ensure safe, optimal and cost effective data acquisition in drilling programmes, fulfilling all objectives.
Carry out studies and provide geoscience input into field evaluation, reservoir and field development studies and plans.
Recruitment for geoscience permanent and contract staff, including forward planning to meet work programme.
Sanction fully integrated geoscience work flows with other disciplines to achieve full understanding of economic development options.
Ensure that the highest standards of collaborative support are provided to the Asset and Exploration Managers for Cairn projects as required from time to time.
Represent Cairn interests in external dealing with contractors, consultants and industry forums.
Support Cairn interests on joint projects.
Report to the Head of Geoscience on functional geoscience matters, with focus on exploration, appraisal, field development and production projects.
Daily interaction with Geoscience team members, and as required with wider technical staff.
Regional Directors, Asset Managers, Department Heads.
Preparation and presentation of material for TCM, OCM & MCM and TAB meetings.
Contractors, 3rd Parties, consultants and academics as required.
Skills/Experience Required
Education
Bachelor degree in a geoscience subject is required at a minimum. MSc in Petroleum Geology or/and a PhD in Geology is preferred.
Relevant experience
Extensive expertise and/or understanding of the following group sets of skills is required:
Geology: Geological evaluation of conventional and unconventional log, core and seismic data, construction of 3D geocellular models using gridded and mapped geobody and fault data, statistical and deterministic description of depositional systems, facies distributions, flow units, structural deformation, HC phase distributions, iterative integration of static model into reservoir production simulation; deterministic and stochastic volumetric resource estimation.
Petrophysics: Well log correlation and litho-stratigraphic interpretation, petrophysical estimation of reservoir parameters (porosity, permeability, fluid phase saturation), core and cuttings description, sampling, testing procedures, geomechanics, data management, handling and display of digital files, and analysis, planning, selection, and specification of well logging programmes.
Geophysics: full understanding of: structural and sequence stratigraphic interpretation, mapping of horizons and faults, time-depth conversion methods, attribute analysis, AVO, seismic inversion, correlation, log interpretation and synthetic integration into seismic data, value of all types of seismic data (2D, 3D, 3C and 4D) and application.
Exploration: familiarity with exploration workflows, data acquisition techniques, prospect maturation workflows, and handover variables for development geoscientists upon establishing commerciality of field.
Experience in managing and scheduling internal and external subsurface geoscience projects and effective integration in multi-discipline teams.
Strong command of resource evaluation in conventional hydrocarbon deposits.
Experience in staff administration, career development & guidance, training, performance management and appraisals. · Management of cost centres budgets and generating forecasts is an advantage.
Current understanding of digital integration of geoscience interpretation and static modelling. Kingdom and Petrel software expertise is desirable.
Advanced understanding of geological interpretation of varied global siliciclastic and carbonate reservoirs development would be an advantage.
Knowledge of structural geology in tensional and compressional tectonics is desirable.
Experience in reservoir management and development, and full field development studies.
Experience in participating in data room evaluations is desirable.
Experience in partnership/JV operations.
Knowledge of gridding and contouring methods, geostatistical analysis, geodetic data would be an advantage.
Knowledge in application of statistical methods, spatial analysis, statistical simulation (Monte Carlo, SGS) for rock parameter distribution would be an advantage.
Knowledge of routine and special core analysis, petrography and biostratigraphy would be an advantage.
Up-to-date software capability using office (MS Office Suite) and collaborative applications is required.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills to support work in close collaboration with other managers, and within multi-discipline teams.
Ability to perform analysis, interpretation and problem solving at all levels of complexity with varying volumes of data.
Ability to work with a geographically dispersed team.
Experience in drilling operations and well site geology.
Knowledge of seismic data acquisition and processing would be an advantage Knowledge of SPE-PRMS in particular is required.
