Just to clarify a few things. Creationists is anyone who thinks that God (or other supernatural being) has had a hand in creating the Earth and life on it. This includes:
Old Earth creationists
Young earth creationists
Intelligent Design
The reason I want to do this survey (although I know the result may be skewed) is that recent polls have put figures such as 40% in the number of UK people that believe in creationism in one form or another. This is my ad-hoc equivalanet. I realise that not many people visiting here are creationists, hence the "do you know". If you are a creationist, then assume that you know yourself
The person that a group of friends and I was talking to beleived in the creation, and that the Earth is roughly 6-7 thousand years old.
When we tried to point out that there is quite a significant amount of evidence against that, he told us that we cannot be certain that the univesre is constant, so any results we get will be inaccurate.
He then went on to tell me that i'm going to go to hell. I had asked that if i lived as good as possible, but did not believe in god, would i go to hell? "yes" was the reply. I think that if god is going to be like that, then stuff him! Does make me wonder why people worship "him" if he's going to be so small minded.

The universe is not constant? What's that got to do with anything? The problem (I'm beginning to realise) is that these people simply dismiss anything they don't like, not by persuasive arguments or logic, but by random pseudo-science. In other words, I beginning to think that anyone who ardently believes in creationism is a lost cause. We should concentrate on educating those that are young and those with an open-mind. Sounds obvious now I've written it...
Just to clarify- when you say creationist, does that include people who believe in evolution, the big bang, old earth and abiogenesis, but think that God set the universe in motion at the beginning?

No, I would not consider someone who believes in what you describe as a creationist.
*sigh* All creationists have been "proven" wrong. Science used to think the Earth was 6000 years old too. Then evidence was found that contradicted that view. More and more evidence for a 4.6billion year old Earth has been found as our understanding of earth-system processes has increased. I stongly suggest you read the tutorials on the site and look through the links to other geological site to see a very small portion of the evidence for yourself.
