Symbol like a percent sign

Can anyone tell me the meaning of the symbol which looks like a percent sign % but has two copies of the lower 'o'? This relates to concentrations in an article I am reading on isotopic fractionation.

as far as I can see, it's a 'unit' (as in mg or kJ) but what the actual unit is, I'm not sure yet...

I've had a moment of genius... Winking

If % is basically parts per hundred (when you're thinking about concentrations) then ‰ should be 'parts per thousand'

Of course, I could be wrong... Big grin

‰...

Jenny, you are correct - ‰ means parts per thousand, which can also be written as ppt or permil.

Thanks very much, both of you. Now the only question I have is how on earth did you type ‰ in? Unless you copied and pasted it in from somewhere else of course, which makes you wonder where they got it from in turn. Winking

Use Alt 0137 to get ‰.
