What do you others reckon?

Strange rock formation
Submitted by kalahari on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 19:50.I live in Windhoek and I am not very familiar with geology. I came across this formation in Windhoek (Khomas-Hochland):
Unfortunately I did not put something down to indicate the size. However, I estimate that the leaf in the right corner on top is about 3 cm long, the blades of grass in the centre are betwen 10 -15 cm long.
I was fascinated by the criss cross pattern an the smaller rocks embedded in the solid looking black material.
Does anybody have an explanation?
