Agatized Pet Wood?

My wife and I collected some samples of what we thought to be agatized petrified wood from Troublesome Creek,Colorado. The pieces we picked up resembled wood perfectly (shape and form) on the outside. That is, at least, until I cut one open....

I carefully sliced a few thin cross sections to prepare some microscope slides and was very disapointed to find that there was no cell structure whatsoever indicated in these thin cross sections! Now I'm wondering if what we collected is even pet wood? The slices are indeed agate (black). Other than color, the pieces resemble wood remarkably well in outside appearance.

Should agatized petrified wood exhibit plant cells if sliced into thin cross sections or is it possible that all of the internal cell detail was lost when the wood was replaced by agate during the petrification process?

Black Agate, Agatized pet wood and specimen wood is suposedly in the area where we were collecting samples.

I will post photos if desired/required, however the cross sections are very boring.

It's very common for

It's very common for minerals to obliterate earlier structures such as cells and even the original animal or plant itself can be impossible to identify (think of flint), so it looks quite likely that you have petrified wood.
