Work Experience, Mining/Exploration Geology

Hey all, i am looking for some assistance. For my degree course (BSc Applied Geology at CSM) i have to do a summer placement next summer (2008!!) towards my degree. I will obviously be applying with the likes of Rio Tinto and Anglo American, but do you guys have any ideas of where else to apply, as places with these two large companies are very very limited.

Many thanks!

On a less exotic note there

On a less exotic note there is the aggregate industry within the UK: Tarmac, Midland Quarry Products.

 Coal Mining: UK Coal

Maybe the Potash mine in the NE near Middlesborough (I forget it's name).

Abroad there are diamond mines in southern africa (recently had an opportunity with work to go to Botswana). De Beers or someone similar.

Hope this list gives you some ideas - it's not actually my field, I'm a geotechnical engineer.
