Time of AD79 Eruption of Vesuvius

Hi all,

I've just come back from a lovely holiday to Italy to meet the girlfriends parents. That all went well and we had time to take in some tourist sites including Pompei. As we looked round the old bath house there were the casts of a couple of the victims in glass cases. One looked in obvious distress (understandably!) but the other looked peacefully asleep. It got me thinking as to the time of the eruption so that some may have been asleep and others awake. Anyone know what time it erupted?

When I get a chance I'll try to post a few pictures of Vesuvius as well . Smiling face

Hello,  After looking

Hello,

After looking around on the web I found this site: http://www.ov.ingv.it/inglese/vesuvio/storia/79.htm, saying that it errupted at 13 o'clock in the afternoon.

Greetings Bram.

maybe the two curled up saw

maybe the two curled up saw what was coming and the other one freaked out and got all distressed. Either way is perfectly understandable really.

I'm not quite sure what I would do, hopefully I will never find myself in the path of a super pyroclastic. However, as I had a close call with Tunghurara at crimbo so I wouldn't like to sat never
